I found this motley crew at my local Goodwill.
The black wooden candlesticks are scratched and have a very poor matte finish.
The brass one is tarnished and scratched.
The lantern is dented and also has a poor finish. (There was really nothing wrong with the glass candlestick. I was just on a roll.)
Here are the after pics....
The lantern needed to be frozen and scrapped to get the wax off. The other pieces were only cleaned and received a light sanding. I did not prime these since I was hoping the sanding would do the job. It worked! I sprayed about 3 coats of paint on each piece. The finish looks great!

I wrapped jute around wood candle sticks only in the grooves.
I think it gives them more of a cottage look that is not too country.
