30 Day Photography Project - Day 8 ~ Cold

My 30 Day Photography Project had a very slow start and has turned into a "30 in 60 days" project.  I find it challenging to find inspirations while working from home and the weather is blah. I know you don't want to see my house in every post. I travel for work one week a month, so that opens a lot of opportunities for photos.   So, I'll post when inspirations strike!

Day 8
I was in Florida this weekend when the arctic cold front came through.  While it was not the weather I was hoping for, we were surprised to wake to awesome lighting and icicles!  Here are some of the photos from the weekend....

It turned out to be a fun day.  My daughter took some shots with me.  My two boys waited patiently in the cold by the curb and rolled their eyes at me while I climbed over the bushes and under the fountain for these shots.

I love finding the unexpected!

Crazy Bird Story {or Devious Bird Brains}

Birds are officially devious and have a sense of humor!

Today is my first segment of what I'll call "The View from my Window" , where I'll ramble on about something off topic. I'll add cool pictures and will call it a post.  Enjoy!...

My desk at home sits in front of a window that faces the street. (I'm blessed to be able to work full time from home.) I feel so connected to everything when I work at my desk with a view of the neighborhood.

Today is Monday....trash pickup day.  The recycling and normal trash cans are on the curbside. I had cleaned the garage over the weekend, so the normal can was quite full. An extra kitchen trash bag wouldn't fit, so it was set next to the can.

A curious crow landed on the street and started checking the bag out. I walked out on the porch and shooed him away. (No, of course I don't know if the bird was male. I'm just assuming he is because if his stubborn attitude. But, yes, I did actually say "Shoo!".)

He was gone for about 10 minutes. Then, he tried again. This time, I didn't notice he was back until he had pecked the bag open.  I ran out again. "Shoo!"  He flew off. Noticing black olives and chicken pieces on the road, I said some colorful words, got out new bag, and double-bagged the trash.  Thinking I out-smarted him, I went back to work.

Ten minutes later, he returned. He landed on the street again and slowly approached the bag, looking both ways to check if he was in the clear. I was sitting at my desk in the middle of a teleconference call, watching him approach, acting like he thinks he's not being seen. "Seriously?!" (Well, I didn't say that out loud since I was on the phone in a meeting, but I sure was yelling it in my head.)  I stepped out on the porch and he flew off.

I wish I had a video camera set up for the next part.  He came back again about 15 minutes later. He landed on the other side of the street. But, this time, after he landed, he turned around to face away from me and he walked backwards approaching the bag. He would take a few steps backward, pause, and look over his shoulder to check if he was clear. (I don't know if birds have actual shoulders, but you know what I mean).  Then, he took a few more steps backwards, pause, and looked over his other shoulder. He continued to do this for the distance of about 40 feet! He apparently thought no one would notice that he was getting closer to the bag if he looked like he was walking forward!.....The only other explanation is he was doing the Moonwalk.

It was the weirdest thing I have seen a quite while.
What's the weirdest thing you've observed?

Travel & Photography Series ~ Key West, FL

201201 Florida Key West, Fort Jefferson

I didn't accomplish as much this week as I had hoped. So many things on the to-do list this weekend!
While you read the list, here are some more of photos from Key West, FL in January 2012.

1) Catch up on my 30 Day Photography Project. I've posted for day 6, but I should be on day 13.... Life got in the way this week, so it's turning into an extended 30 day project.

2) Design the new pantry. I hope it's a good as the Master Closet turned out (check it out here)! I'll do a post on it when it's done.

3) Hang woven shades in the family room

4) Check out some thrift stores. Ya never know what you'll find!

5)\ Work on my next painting. The weather needs to be good to work on this since my workarea is in the garage.

6) Finish writing a guest post that I am preparing for a great blog.  The photos are picked out, but the text still needs to be drafted. More on this soon!

7) And of course watching the Superbowl this weekend! Preparing for Superbowl reminds me of the first time I made a lunch for the first Superbowl I watched with Mr E'alamode.  I prepared all of the perfect picnic foods....wonderful olive tapenade, fresh bruschetta, Prosciutto wrapped around melon,  assorted cheeses and a nice wine. ......Well......Mr. E'alamode looked at me like I lost my mind.  He did eat it all. He was a trooper. I have since learned better food choices for the super bowl. This year we're watching the game at a friends house. I'm bringing 7 layer taco dip with chips and homemade banana pudding and a my favorite drink of the season.

A question for you, how do you balance full time work with photography and blogging and with a full family? Any suggestions are appreciated!
